Does anybody know what degree the Temp light goes on? I dont have a Temp gauge just the light, and it came on the other day so I was wondering how hot it got. _________________ -Andrew, 1974 El Camino, finally a 350!

Hence the name "idiot light" since it doesn't come on till it's too late.
The light usually comes on at 220F. Depending on the condition of your cooling system that can vary as the probe tends to collect gunk on it after awhile which can cause it to come on later.
220 is the number to go by though...

Even though I have all the bits & pieces to do the full instrument conversion, which I will get around to soon, I have often wondered about the temperature light. Mine only comes on when I move the ignition switch from the on/run position to the start position. Is this normal? _________________ John (from Down Under)

Yeah a decent three gauge cluster (oil press, temp, volts) is the way to go. Always the first upgrade on a used car in my case.
I hate idiot lights. I used to have a problem with my VOLTS light
staying on but really dim. You could only notice it at night and then you really had to look at it but it still drove me nuts.
I fixed that by rebuilding the charging harness.
