On my '81 Conquista, when I turn on the wipers, the washer comes on and stays on 'till I shut off the wipers. Before I rip the dash apart, can anyone tell me if it is the switch? (Just picked up the El last night....I think I'm in love)!!!!!!!!
Hey Tony - Welcome to the club! If you just got the Elky this week, sounds like you'll have to check a lot of things to see what works and what doesn't. Have fun! Regarding the wiper/washer: If it comes on like you say, it appears the switch and the electrical power is working. Maybe the previous owner fooled around with the wiring a bit. First impression is that one or two of the wires on the harness are plugged into the wrong prong. See if you can run the wiper through all its various cycles to see what it is doing. If all features work, but just on the wrong setting at the control, you can just learn to live with it until it gets fixed. We have a local member in Lynn who does auto electric work as a specialty and we can get you in touch with him after you complete this diagnostic test. The previous owner may have replaced the switch with an incorrect model so that the connections don't match up as expected. At least they do go on! Drop me an email to work out the details of connecting with Mark our expert at the following address:

Thanks John, I bet it is incorrect wiring, just didn't want to start ripping the dash apart untill someone else thought the same thing. Already fixed the radio today. I always wanted an Elky and this is a nice one so I finally broke down and bought it. I have found a few very minor problems to keep me busy for a while, but it runs and rides great. The good thing is I can actually do some work on it (I also have an '02 Corvette and wouldn't think of trying to fix anything on the newer cars). I have a feeling I'm going to be more attached to the Elky than the Vette!
