is the vehicle speed sensor needed? i have converted my elco to TPI and i went with the speed density set up, i have heard that this set up has a 4 pulse VSS, and my original VSS on my elco is 2 pulse. is there something that converts 2 pulse to 4 pulse or do i get a 4pulse from a 700r4 and use it my tranny. but im using the 2004r. will it work please help.

I can't help you on the trannies but the ECM likes to know the speed that car is going. It helps with calculations for Air/Fuel ratios. At least that's the way it works with LT1s and LS1s.

am assuming you are like me. 86 or 87 elky. if it's older, i'm surprised that aucath hasn't replied. he is the electrical genius on this site. give him a pm or something. if you get it all fixed please let me know. bob

If the TPI setup is out of an 85-89, it will require a two-pulse (2000 pulse per mile) VSS.

If the setup is from a 90-up, it will require a four-pulse sensor.

First you need to verify your setup.

If you need a four-pulse, there is an adapter type of sensor that mounts inline with the speedo cable that is available.
