Ok, my wife and friends keep pushing me to enter a show, so I gave in. My 71 is a daily driver, so it's not very flashy, but it is clean. Any tips on getting her ready to shine a little brighter? It's work in progress but eveyone tells me not to worry, just go have fun!

Any ideas would be helpful....

Use regular motor oil to shine the tires. It's that best stuff ever!
Also that Mr. Clean thing does work nice.

Hey Mark. Good luck on your first show. Your Elky looks nice, I'm sure you'll do well.
As far as getting it show ready.... well you'll get lots of advise here, but here is what I do. I use Zaino Car Show Polish for the body and it shines like crazy. I use 303 Aerospace Protectant on my vinyl roof. It will make it look brand new. Great for interior also. Use Meguiar's Chrome polish for all chrome.

Just my 2 cents worth...

A "DRIVER" good enough to show!... You're a lucky man!!!
Your Elky doesn't have to be cherry to show. so long as she stands proud.
From what I see, your good to go.

I say... "Why have it if ya can't drive it?"
AND if you drive it to the show... what can be better?

Good luck.

camino81,
Works the best. Tires and oil are cousins(chemically speaking) and as you continue to use it the tire will hold the shine better. Oil is also more flexible than many spray-on tire shiners/darkeners so when you go to drive it the shine will stay!

~hey wha-do-ya have to lose, oil is a buck fifty a bottle.

Hmmm....what weight oil? 30W, 10-30? How about Synthetic oil?

Just having some fun here....really I have never heard of using oil on your tires for shine. I have been a professional detailer for many years. This is a new one for me. Sounds a little messy to me. How does the tires look after a week or so....what does your wash mitt look like when you wash your tires the following week?

I do know there are warnings on using different types of products on tires. Some manufactors will even void warranty for using some tire dressing as they will harm the rubber. So they claim.

To tell you the truth I got it of of a TV special about getting your car "show ready". The tips were put together by West Coast Customs (a well know shop in LA, California)
Trying to find a link as we speak.

BTW you definitely want to use a thin (5W-30) non-synthetic oil.
