Headers

I have an 83 El Camino with a 350 and I just bought so Headman Headers. What I was wondering is if there is an easier way to put the headers in rather than lifting the motor??

Any info would be awesome!

Put them in place from underneath and have a friend bungie chord them in place. Then bolt um up.

I put hedders in my 80 elky and i had all kinds of problems. We had unbolt the motor mounts and tilt the motor on one side. Then I had clearance problems with the transmission crossmember and I had to notch it out.

Yes the transmission cross member will interfere with headers. It only has clearance for exhaust pipe on passenger side. You can notch the cross member yourself, buy one from one of the links (Jegs and others), or get creative in a junkyard and find one. I used a F**d cross member that was double humped for clearancr for dual exhaust.

I used Hedman shorty headers but had to dent No. 2 cylinder tube to clear A-arm.

i just recently put some on my 78 g-body
i opted for the HOOKER competition longtube headers 1 5/8" - 3" collectors
and they did fit like a glove
going from underneath on both sides
drivers side slid right in
just had to replace the stock size oil filter with a shorter AC Delco one
passengers side i had to remove the starter
then it slid right in.
after i put the starter back in i realized that the headers were resting snug against the starter so i went down the road to see my friends at O'reillys and got me a "mini" starter for a i think 95 GM truck its like half the size of my old starter it slid right in with plenty of room to spare. i used the new hardware that came with the headers except for the bolt that the compresser bracket attaches to even though i dont have a compresser.
instead of using the single gasket that came with the headers i used 2 sets of felpro stock manifold gaskets on each side, sealed like a dream and sounds amazing! then i put dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers and i didnt even use a double hump crossmember just "squeezed" the pipe a bit for ground clearence.

all in all HOOKER is the way to go.
